Marry After Marrying Your Studies

In many Romani communities, young girls are often forced to marry at a very young age, long before they are ready to take on such responsibilities.

The MAMYS project (Marry After Marrying Your Studies) brings together partners from Belgium (Brussels), Portugal (BEJA), and Slovenia (NOVO MESTO) to offer a better future for girls in the Romani community, a future where they can dream and build their lives.

The project

These early marriages are often the result of traditions that set education aside. Their lives are dictated by rules that leave them no room to choose their own path.

The MAMYS project aims to raise awareness in communities about the dangers of early marriages and to give girls the tools to imagine a different future. It seeks to create change that respects traditions but places education at the heart of priorities.

But MAMYS does not stop at talking: it fights to ensure that every girl can go to school and choose her own future, free from social or cultural pressures.

The project brings together partners from several European countries to exchange ideas and create solutions that respect each culture, while opening doors to a better future for girls. By strengthening the capacities of local organizations, MAMYS is building a strong network to ensure that this change is sustainable and that no girl is left behind.

Through this project, MAMYS aims to offer every young girl the opportunity to dream and choose her own path. Because they deserve to decide their future, to learn, to grow, and to live freely.
